Dagestan Proposes New Camel-Farming Tourism Route

An international scientific and practical conference on camel breeding in Russia and the CIS was held in Makhachkala. During the event, a proposal was made to create a unified tourist route that would connect camel-breeding regions of Russia and other CIS countries, such as Kazakhstan.

The press service of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food of Dagestan noted that camel farms could be an excellent object for agritourism. People often visit them to purchase vitamin C-rich milk, which is known for its beneficial properties and low lactose content. Sometimes, foreigners even come to the region for this valuable milk.

Already, there are farms in Dagestan where people can not only buy camel milk and wool but also stay for a few days and relax.

Today, up to 40 million camels of 57 different breeds are found in 27 countries. In Russia, their population is estimated to be between 5.5 thousand and 10 thousand. Camel farms in Russia can be found in Kalmykia, Dagestan, and the Astrakhan region.
