The grand opening of the Gelendzhik Arena Cultural and Business center took place in Gelendzhik on June 1, on Children's Protection Day.
The center with a total area of more than 14,000 square meters was built in 3.5 years. Inside there are two transformer halls with 1600 and 300 seats, an exhibition space, a business event area, the complex includes a 2,500-seat outdoor event area, 5 conference rooms, a restaurant and cafe, a park with separate seasonal activities. In the transformer halls, it is possible to create both the atmosphere of a circus arena and the atmosphere of a chamber concert, hold a grandiose show, a sports competition, a business event and other formats. The basic principle inherent in the composition of the complex is the possibility of both a single and independent functioning of its elements united by a common atrium. Starting in 2025, the center plans to hold about 180 events annually.
Alice Lyutomskaya, the daughter of the famous science fiction writer Kir Bulychev, became the architect and general designer of Gelendzhik Arena.
Speaking at the opening of the center, Minister of Culture of the Russian Federation Olga Lyubimova noted that such centers as Gelendzhik Arena have great social significance. "Speaking of sights, we primarily mean museums, theaters, architectural monuments with a rich history. But the appearance of cities is changing, community centers with original architecture and innovative stuffing are being created, which also become points of attraction." According to Lyubimova, the strategic goal of such centers is "to make culture accessible and attractive to all residents of our vast country." Gelendzhik Arena should become just such an iconic place," Lyubimova concluded.
According to Andrey Grachev, Vice President of Norilsk Nickel for federal and regional programs, who attended the opening of the complex, the development of culture, sports and education are key elements of the company's social policy. Norilsk Nickel systematically approaches the issue of supporting the social infrastructure of Russian regions, and the implementation of projects in the Krasnodar Territory is our long-term strategy," he said. Grachev expressed the opinion that the appearance of a modern, technologically advanced and beautiful cultural object in Gelendzhik is a movement in this direction. "When we decided to finance the project, we wanted to make such a gift to the residents of the entire Krasnodar Territory and millions of vacationers in the south of Russia, among whom there are a lot of our employees," Grachev added.
Igor Dunaev, executive director of the investor of the project, the autonomous non-profit organization Gelendzhik-2035 Development Corporation, said that the next, no less important task is "launching the center, configuring and synchronizing all its elements — equipment and personnel." "The installed modern equipment must be managed by professionals, and we have already formed a basic core of specialists who are constantly learning and mastering the possibilities of sound, light, video and mechanical equipment. Together with architects, builders and technologists, we have made every effort to create a balanced facility that would meet both the market capacity and the needs of the city and tourists, and would have a technological foundation for development for at least a decade ahead," Dunaev said.
Director of Gelendzhik Arena Daria Dyakova expressed hope that the center will make the resort city of Gelendzhik the heart of event tourism in the south of Russia.
