V gastronomic festival "Smelt is coming!" will take place on May 13 in Novaya Ladoga, the government of the Leningrad Region announced on its website.
“One of the main topics will be the 80th anniversary of the breakthrough of the blockade of its Leningrad, in connection with which, the festival will begin with a theatrical prologue dedicated to the feat of the Ladoga fishermen, and a parade of fishing boats on the Volkhov,” the message says.
Guests will be able to look into the "Fisherman's Village" and get acquainted with a wide range of fresh, fried, smoked, dried and boiled fish products: from smelt and pike to sturgeon and catfish.
“At the gastronomic site, you can taste all kinds of fish delicacies, and at culinary master classes you can learn the intricacies of frying smelt, cook a fishmonger, smelt mousse or fish soup,” the regional government said.
Crafts Fair will present handicrafts and handmade arts and crafts - from Volkhov painting and Kirishi lace to souvenirs in the form of smelt.
Visitors can also walk along Novaya Ladoga with an audio guide from the Alexander Suvorov Museum or take part in a fishing competition. Children will have fun on rides, trampolines and creative workshops.
The State Orchestra of Russian Folk Instruments "Metelitsa" and amateur groups from the Leningrad Region and St. Petersburg will perform for the guests of the festival.
