Mospriroda specialists observe the preparation of animals living in the natural areas of the capital for the summer season - the animals have begun to change their coats.

Seasonal color change of animals is one of the signs of the change of seasons. On this occasion, they even came up with a holiday - April 8th was the Day of Shedding the Winter Skin.

“Almost all animals shed, except some pets. Moulting in mammals occurs twice a year - in spring and autumn. With the onset of cold weather, animals warm up, and on the eve of summer heat, on the contrary, they shed excess hair. Some also change color to be less visible and successfully hide from predators and other dangers. By disguising themselves as the external environment, animals provide themselves with the opportunity to survive in the wild, ”the message on the Mospriroda website says.
According to experts, in March squirrels get new coats, and in April - weasels, ermines and hares.

So, in Moscow, squirrels are already changing their gray coats to red ones.
