Pink flamingos, which until recently delighted ornithologists and nature lovers, have left the lake, located near the famous Bulgarian resort of Pomorie. The reason for this is the beginning of the tourist season.
Fans of extreme entertainment ride skateboards and windsurfers across the waters of the protected zone, disturbing the peace of the birds. Despite the order of the Ministry of Environment and Water Resources of the Republic of Bulgaria from 2009, which forbids water sports in the Pomorie lagoon, every season the same thing is repeated here: the violators of the bird world rush around the lake, and the municipal administration tries to stop them with menacing posters and cameras video surveillance.
In addition to lovers of boards, they deprive the inhabitants of the lake and those who just want to splash in the warm waters of the lagoon. People swim right at the prohibition signs next to the nesting sites of rare waterfowl. As a result, every year the number of avocets, crested terns, stilt and other rare birds - the symbols of Lake Pomorie - decreases here.
Members of the organization "Green Balkans" bitterly note the passivity of local authorities in the fight against violators of environmental laws. After all, if measures are not taken today, then in the coming years Bulgaria may be left without unique representatives of the fauna in the Pomorie biosphere reserve.
