The press service of the Ministry of Natural Resources reported that under the federal project “Clean Country” in the Nizhny Novgorod region it is planned to liquidate five unauthorized landfills. Two of them are located in Nizhny Novgorod, three more in Bogorodsk, Volodarsk and Pervomaisk.

The largest landfill is the landfill in Bogorodsk. It was in operation for almost 60 years. Over the years, more than 813 thousand cubic meters of garbage have accumulated on an area of 45 hectares. Currently, work is underway to install a multi-layer impervious screen.

Two landfills are being liquidated in Nizhny Novgorod. The largest is located on the Moscow highway and covers an area of 16.4 hectares. It contains more than 140 thousand cubic meters of waste. The second landfill on Zaovrazhnaya Street is located in the water protection zone on the banks of the Oka. It is small in area and volume of accumulated waste. Now work is being carried out there to strengthen the slopes of the river.

Another landfill, which is located in the water protection zone, is located in the city of Pervomaisk, where the Umoch River flows. More than 200 thousand cubic meters of household and construction waste are buried in the landfill.
In Volodarsk, almost 67 thousand cubic meters of garbage are buried in a landfill with an area of 2.1 hectares.
