An extreme race across the polar tundra will take place on July 16 as part of the Teriberka Arctic Festival. It will be held for the fifth time. “Most of the distance passes along mountain paths and rocky surfaces, as well as along the tundra, swampy terrain and field areas,” the Committee for Tourism of the Murmansk Region reported on its website.
Despite the complexity of the route and the harsh Arctic climate, the trail race brings together dozens of athletes from all over the country every year. For example, last year 77 participants took part in the distances of 10 and 21.1 km. The winner in the 10 km race was Dmitry Shishkin from Perm, who reached the finish line after just over 54 minutes. The best at a distance of 21.1 km was Nazir Lytypov from Bashkiria - it took him two hours to overcome the route.
This year, runners will receive a starter pack that includes a fanny pack, T-shirt, sports nutrition and a finisher's medal. Also, a free transfer will be organized for athletes along the route "Murmansk - Teriberka - Murmansk".
