A study by the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) commissioned by WWF notes a significant increase in public interest in environmental problems.
The report is based on data from 2016 to 2020. The study was conducted in 27 languages of the world, in 54 countries, which is 80% of the total population of our planet. The release of the report is timed to coincide with the International Day for Biodiversity, which is celebrated on May 22.
Public concern about environmental issues is high on the media agenda. According to the study, in 2019 the interest of mass media in the topic increased by 103%.
Realizing the degree of their responsibility to the planet and future generations, more and more people are changing their consumer habits. The authors of the report found that among all inhabitants of the Earth, the frequency of searches for eco-products has increased by 71% since 2016.
If we talk about the situation in Russia, then in 2020 the topics of biodiversity conservation and the depletion of natural resources are still at the top and interest in the problems of overconsumption and disposable plastic items is also gaining momentum.
