Egypt's tourism revenues in the 2018-2019 fiscal year rose 28 percent to $12.6 billion, compared with nearly $10 billion in the previous fiscal year, the World economic forum (WEF) reported.

Thus, Egypt rose by nine positions - to 65th place in the index of competitiveness of tourism and travel, published by WEF.

The Ministry of tourism of Egypt launched in 2018 a program to achieve sustainable development of tourism and increase the level of its competitiveness in accordance with international standards.

The program includes, inter alia, institutional and legislative reforms, investment and infrastructure development.

Revenues from the commercial exploitation of the Suez Canal, tourism sector and foreign investment are the main sources of hard currency in Egypt.
