310 special sites for stork nests were built on the supports of the electric distribution network in primorsky Burgas. This is done to protect birds from electric shock.
The fact is that storks have chosen power poles to arrange their nests. However, finding a home in close proximity to power lines sometimes leads to tragic consequences: injury or even death of birds. There are also known cases of fire in sockets due to contact with mains wires.
To avoid such incidents, the company "Electric Division South" has placed special protective platforms in stork nesting sites, moving the mesh platforms to a distance of more than a meter from the wires. Also, special reflective elements were installed on power lines to protect birds from collisions with wires.
All work was completed before the spring migration of birds. The deadlines are set by the Ministry of Nature and Water Resources of the Republic of Belarus. The security initiative for the installation of platforms has been coordinated with environmental organizations.
In total, since 2009, 3,440 protective platforms have been erected in Bulgaria for the safety of storks.
