Cyprus intends to be among the top 30 best tourist destinations in the world.
“There is a lot of work for us to do so that Cyprus can be included in the 30 top tourist destinations in the world,” said Savvas Perdios, head of the Tourism Ministry of the Republic of Cyprus, during the results of the next cabinet meeting.
He expressed confidence that due to a national project developed by his department, “the contribution of Cyprus to the development of the local economy will increase by 1.6 billion euros - up to 4.5 billion euros per year.”
More detailed information will be disclosed after the national strategy is submitted to parliament on January 21. Briefly, Savvas nevertheless outlined five key positions of the proposed strategy: to achieve year-round tourism, to involve the whole island, and not just coastal areas in this industry, to make Cyprus a quality destination, and use digital technologies more efficiently.
The fifth position, he said, is related to climate change and sustainable growth. Perdios explained that his ministry wants to improve the image of Cyprus as a country that cares about the environment, as more and more tourists prefer environmentally friendly countries for recreation.
Also, Cyprus will soon launch a new branding campaign to “further boost the country’s tourism not just this year but also in the coming years.”
