Italian cruise company MSC Cruisers was the first among the industry leaders to announce the resumption of navigation in the Mediterranean sea from August 15.
The announcement came three days after the Italian government passed a decree to regulate measures to deal with the crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and support the national economy, including allowing cruise travel to resume from August 15.
Travel liners were temporarily suspended in March after an outbreak of a new coronavirus infection occurred in Northern Italy.
According to the international Association of cruise companies (CLIA), in Italy, the turnover of the industry, which employs about 53,000 people, reaches 14.5 billion euro.
According to representatives of cruise companies, they have taken all appropriate measures to prevent the disease among passengers: mandatory testing for COVID-19, including crew members, daily measurement of body temperature, maximum distance when going ashore, refusal of the "buffet" format.
