City train will help clear up Sochi from traffic jams

The transport infrastructure of the resort will be modernized by 2044 as part of a new master plan, which will be approved in the fall of 2023. The developers of the document propose to create a new railway line and a number of platforms for launching a city train.

- The construction of five stops is envisaged, which will make it possible to cover all the main districts of the city of Sochi by the city train. And it is important that this is a clock movement, the interval between trains should be half an hour and half an hour, then this type of transport will be in demand by people. Buses will approach the stations so that passengers can transfer to the train and not go from one end of the city to the other. This will change the dynamics of passenger traffic in Sochi,” said Irina Grishechkina, chief architect of the Research Institute for Advanced Urban Development and head of the Sochi master plan project.
The draft master plan also provides for the reconstruction of existing stations and the construction of 12 transport hubs.

- This will solve the problem of traffic jams. Another solution that can minimize this problem is the construction of a Sochi bypass, including a railway one. The problem is related to the fact that there is a railway and a federal road that runs through the city center. Naturally, all settlements flock to this single highway and provoke traffic jams. Therefore, the master plan takes into account both the development of large federal facilities and regional ones. And a detour of the city of Sochi is proposed. Part of it - the railway bypass will go through the mountainous area, which will be located between Rosa Khutor and Adler,  said Irina Grishechkina.
