Employees of the Moscow Zoo returned to nature 10 bats that spent this winter in the Chiroptera Rehabilitation Center.
“The Center receives bats that were injured or simply did not find a good place to winter. Employees of the Center fatten the animals, treat them if necessary and send them to hibernation - in refrigerators. During this autumn-winter season, we got a record number of mice - more than 400! Most of them are two-tone leathers listed in the Red Book of Moscow," the zoo's general director Svetlana Akulova said in her telegram channel.
According to her, every year in the spring, as soon as the weather is fine and flying insects appear, which feed on bats, the zoo staff releases the animals into nature in small batches. This is done approximately in the area where they were found.
She said that as a rule, employees band the mice so that they can be identified in the future. If such an animal returns in the fall, the zoo will already know its history.
