All-Russian Architectural Festival “ArchBay. Refraction” will be held from 7 to 12 March in Baikalsk, Irkutsk region.
The event is a competition for the creation of small architectural forms and art objects.
"ArchBay" has been held annually for 17 years in the vicinity of Lake Baikal by the team of the Club of Young Architects and gathers the creative community from all over the country, according to the festival's website.
Venue "ArkhBay. Refraction” will become a new creative platform on the territory of the closed Baikal Pulp and Paper Mill.
The organizers revealed the essence of the chosen theme of the festival.
“This is a physical phenomenon due to which we observe many striking effects. Rainbow, white snow, twinkling stars, rising sun - all this gives rise to refraction. It is no secret that even a person's personality faces refraction at every difficult and happy moment of life. The refraction of light, sound (and whatever) is always temporary, but very bright. We invite you to look at the world, architecture and yourself from this point of view,” the message on the site says.
The organizers suggest that participants use a combination of three materials when creating works - ice, snow and wood.
“An interesting solution would be the ability to create objects in such a way that snow and ice are additionally used in winter, and already in the warm period of time, the objects will retain their self-sufficiency and shape,” the festival manifesto says.
