The Green Spring environmental clean-up will be held from April 22 to May 31 in the Russian regions. The project is implemented by the V.I. Vernadsky since 2014. “Every year we unite more than 1 million people who participate in various events aimed at improving the state of the environment, environmental education and landscaping,” the organizers say on their website.

All participants of the subbotnik themselves determine the place of holding eco-events and directions of work. This can be cleaning up territories from garbage, and campaigns for the selective collection of household waste and waste paper, planting flowers and trees, helping specially protected natural areas, arranging ecopaths and tourist sites, restoring and beautifying monuments to participants in the Great Patriotic War.

Organizers of subbotniks in the field can also hold environmental education classes, quests, games.

During the years of the Green Spring, the participants planted 3.6 million trees and shrubs, collected and disposed of 400 thousand tons of waste, cleared 56 thousand hectares of land from garbage. 95 thousand spontaneous dumps were liquidated, 4.9 thousand monuments of the Great Patriotic War and mass graves were ennobled, 8.5 thousand playgrounds were painted, repaired and restored, 4.5 thousand picnic areas and tourist sites were put in order.
