The BAM Tourist project has started in the Far East. Three groups of experts representing the tourism industry took part in a week-long expedition to explore the tourism opportunities of the Baikal-Amur Mainline.
“Efforts to develop tourism in the area of the Baikal-Amur Mainline united the Trans-Baikal Territory, the Amur Region, Yakutia, Buryatia, and the Khabarovsk Territory,” says a message on the official portal of the Trans-Baikal Territory.
As part of the expedition, experts were presented with key sites of environmental, industrial, historical, cultural, and ethnographic tourism located along the BAM in these five regions.
“BAM is our common history of a large construction project, dozens of attractions and points of attraction that will be of interest to travelers from all over Russia. In the project we present our natural landmark, which is distinctive from other regions - the northernmost desert in the world, the unique natural monument Chara Sands in the area of the most beautiful Kodar Mountains. And, of course, we also want to show the power of the largest copper deposit - the Udokan Mining and Metallurgical Plant as an object of industrial tourism,” said Deputy Minister of Economic Development of the Trans-Baikal Territory Yulia Ivanova, quoted by the region’s portal.
