The press service of the Main State Expertise of Russia announced the issuance of a positive conclusion on the project of the exhibition and administrative building of the museum on the territory of the UNESCO World Heritage Site “Historical and Cultural Complex of the Solovetsky Islands”.

The new building of the museum and exhibition complex will be erected in the southern part of the Solovetsky village on the southern shore of the Holy Lake. The construction site is located near the Solovetsky Monastery.

The report notes that the building will fit organically into the existing landscape, taking into account the requirements of a special zone for regulating development and economic activities within the boundaries of the cultural heritage monument.

The total area of the one-story museum will be 3848.1 square meters. There will be a walking path and an observation deck on the roof of the building.

“As one of the conditions for the approval of project documentation by the International Council for the Protection of Monuments and Sites, there was planning (regulation) of visiting the Solovetsky archipelago and the division of tourist and pilgrim flows in order to reduce the anthropogenic load on the main elements of the architectural and natural landscape and preserve the sacred value of the Solovetsky Monastery as one of the characteristic attributes of the Outstanding Universal Value of a World Heritage property," the statement said.

Over the past year, Glavgosexpertiza has issued seven opinions on objects of the Solovetsky Archipelago. These include projects for the restoration of monuments of the Solovetsky Monastery, as well as the construction of new buildings and structures to ensure the life of the museum complex and the village of the same name in the Primorsky district of the Arkhangelsk region.
