In Karelia, the lighthouses Maly and Heinaluoto, located on Lake Ladoga, will be reconstructed. Glavgosexpertiza (Main State Expert Review Board) of Russia reported on its website that it had issued a positive opinion on these works.
“The reconstructed structures of navigational aids are used to create safe conditions for the navigation of ships and trains,” the report says.

Lighthouse Maly, 24 m high, is located on an island in the Lahdenpokh urban settlement, half a kilometer southwest of Valaam, the 22-meter Heinaluoto lighthouse is in the geodetic protection zone belonging to the Pitkyaranta municipal district of Karelia.

“Despite the fact that the lighthouses are located in seclusion, far from settlements, excursions on boats are carried here. Both facilities were built back in the 19th century, when the Grand Duchy of Finland was part of the Russian Empire, after which they were part of independent Finland, the USSR and, finally, modern Russia, ”Glavgosexpertiza said.

As part of the reconstruction, it is planned to restore the facades, the inner surfaces of the walls, the glazing of skylight superstructures and domed roofs, repair cracks in the brickwork, and replace door and window openings.

Also, the destroyed areas will be dismantled and new blind areas around the lighthouses will be built, the finishing of the steps of the stairs will be restored. They will perform a new interior decoration of the premises, clean the metal structures from corrosion.
At the same time, the architectural solutions of the towers remain unchanged.
