The popularity of locations for adventure tourism in the Murmansk Region increased by 52% from June to September in 2023, according to a study by MTS Travel, the tour operator RussiaDiscovery and the Russian Union of Travel Industry.
According to experts, only the Irkutsk region was more popular – its natural attractions, the main of which is Lake Baikal, were visited by two-thirds more tourists than a year earlier.
Among the most attractive destinations in the territory of the Kola Arctic by the influx of tourists compared to last year was the Tersk coast (+113%).
"If previously residents of neighboring regions mostly came to us to go skiing in Khibiny, now the tourist flow has become year-round, and the geography of points of attraction in the region has expanded. Based on research, we see that this summer the interest of visitors to the Tersk Coast has grown, which is a separate large tourist cluster with huge potential. Also, travelers are increasingly attracted to the landscapes of Teriberka and the mysterious places of the Lovozersky district," says Ekaterina Ivonina, Director of MTS in the Murmansk Region.
