Every year, reindeer herders from the camps gather in villages to see their relatives and demonstrate their skills in traditional competitions for the northern peoples.

This year, the Days of reindeer herders began with the village of Tukhard.

During the holiday, reindeer herders competed in lasso throwing, tug-of-war, sled jumping and national wrestling.

The main competition of the day is the reindeer sledding race. The ability to manage deer is one of the indicators of the skill and professionalism of reindeer herders. The winners of the race always receive valuable prizes, for example, snowmobiles, outboard motors, diesel generators.

The races were held separately among men, women and youth, there were 66 participants in total, the youngest was 14 years old. The judges watched the races, they rode snowmobiles.

The winners received certificates for the purchase of snowmobiles, for the second and third places - certificates for outboard motors and four-person inflatable boats, respectively. For winning the Young Reindeer Breeder competition, they were awarded a certificate for the purchase of a gasoline generator.

"Within the framework of the Year of the Family, Norilsk Nickel established a special nomination "Nomadic Family" and presented five Taimyr families with cash certificates with a nominal value of 200,000 rubles. The nominees were chosen by the reindeer herders themselves - the prizes were awarded to large families who roam in the Tukhard tundra. In addition, the prize fund from the company of 300,000 rubles was distributed among nine winners in competitions in national wrestling, sled jumping and maute throwing," she said

Anfisa Nikiforova, Head of the department for work with indigenous peoples of the North of the Polar Branch of Norilsk Nickel.
