The Ministry for the Development of the Far East and the Arctic is considering options for organizing regular charter sea and air flights to Russian settlements on Svalbard, head of the department Alexey Chekunkov said in an interview with Rossiyskaya Gazeta.

According to him, in 2023, 7,000 tourists, mostly foreigners, visited the Russian part of the archipelago, which indicates that interest in Svalbard is high, although not every tourist can get to the region.

Chekunkov said that Russian settlements in the archipelago, in particular, are popular among Chinese tourists.

For its part, the ministry plans to strengthen work to facilitate tourist trips to Svalbard, Chekunkov said.
