The voyage on the research vessel "Professor Molchanov" will take place approximately from June 23 to July 12, 2023. The route is already known: Arkhangelsk - Kolguev Island - Vaygach Island - Russian Harbor (Novaya Zemlya) - Oransky Islands - Cape Zhelaniya (Novaya Zemlya) - Ice Harbor (Novaya Zemlya) - Sosnovets Island - Arkhangelsk.
The press service of the Russian Geographical Society reported that the curriculum will include practical work, as well as lectures and seminars. The researchers will focus on the climate of the Arctic region, Arctic ecosystems, the use of geoinformation technologies in the Arctic, the psychophysiological study of the human body in Arctic conditions, the study and preservation of the historical and cultural space of the Arctic.
Journalists, bloggers, as well as scientists, graduate students and students whose research interests are focused on the Arctic region will be able to take part in the work of the Arctic Floating University. To participate in the selection, applicants must fill out an electronic application by April 5.
"Arctic Floating University" is an innovative educational project, during which young Arctic researchers gain knowledge and skills in the real conditions of the northern seas. Its first flight took place in 2012. The vessel "Professor Molchanov" was built in 1982 specially by the USSR State Committee for Hydrometeorology. According to its characteristics, it is suitable for almost all types of marine work. The ship has four specially equipped laboratories, hydrological winches and cargo devices, as well as cabins for the crew and members of the expedition.
