The law on the abolition of the border regime for Russian cruise ships in ports located in the areas of internal sea waters and the territorial sea of the Russian Federation in the Arctic zone and the Far Eastern Federal District has been adopted by the State Duma. This was reported by the press service of the lower house of Parliament.
"Now, the rules of the border regime will not apply to cruise ships under our flag, if they enter Russian points and ports in the areas of internal sea waters in these territories. It is only necessary to notify the border authorities about the route, passengers and crew members," explained Vasily Piskarev, head of the State Duma Committee on Security and Anti—Corruption, whose words are quoted in a message on the State Duma website.
According to the explanatory note to this initiative, according to the current law on the state border, Russian cruise ships are required to comply with the rules of the border regime, which requires numerous permits and notifications. At the same time, the current requirements are more stringent for Russian cruise ships than for foreign ones.
The amendments adopted by the Duma are designed to eliminate such inequality.
According to Piskarev, this will allow Russian cruise companies and tour operators to form more attractive routes compared to foreign ones.
"The Russian Arctic and the Far East will receive new opportunities for the economic development of areas attractive from the point of view of tourism and the creation of new jobs. Many of our fellow citizens who dreamed of visiting these beautiful, but so far inaccessible places of our Homeland, will be able to visit them," Piskarev noted.
The law will enter into force 180 days after the date of its official publication.
