The finalists of the fifth season of the Icebreaker of Knowledge youth scientific and educational project - a competition for teenagers – will find themselves on board a nuclear icebreaker and see the Arctic with their own eyes.
In order to become a member of Rosatom's Arctic expedition to the North Pole, it is needed to register on the polus.atom.online website. The qualifying stage will last until May 7.
"The Icebreaker of Knowledge educational project, which has been implemented for the fifth year, provides an opportunity for talented and active children, winners of international Olympiads, to make an unforgettable trip on a nuclear icebreaker to the North Pole," First Deputy Minister of Education of the Russian Federation Alexander Bugaev said at a press conference in RIA Novosti.
According to him, teachers are also involved in the expedition, who conduct master classes and lectures for schoolchildren. Last year, Dmitry Lutovinov, the winner of the Teacher of the Year of Russia 2022 competition, together with the captain of the nuclear vessel Dmitry Lobusov conducted the "Northernmost History Lesson" on an icebreaker. This activity has entered the Russian Book of Records.
The Icebreaker of Knowledge expedition will last 10 days. Approximately four days after leaving the port of Murmansk, the nuclear-powered vessel will reach the North Pole. During this time, the nuclear icebreaker will cover 1,230 miles.
In the final of the project, which will be held in June 2024 in the Atom Pavilion at VDNH, teams representing their federal districts will meet.
In total, more than 300 schoolchildren took part in the Icebreaker of Knowledge competition.
