The press service of the Clean Arctic project reported that the participants of the Clean Arctic-Vostok-77 expedition found remote, abandoned objects of the industrial heritage of the USSR in the Arkhangelsk region. Access to them by heavy and cargo vehicles is difficult. Experts admit that similar objects can be found in other taiga territories.
The expedition participants make a map of industrial heritage sites in the Arctic that need to be disposed of or preserved. They have already analyzed the data on the territory of the Murmansk region and Karelia.
Specialists will have to figure out how to properly organize the removal or conservation of objects to which there are no access roads. The work will be divided into two stages. At the first stage, preliminary conservation of the facility will be carried out with the isolation of all substances and equipment that pose a threat to humans and animals. In addition, scientists will calculate the costs necessary for evacuation. At the second stage, it is planned to liquidate these facilities. According to preliminary estimates, this work will take several years.
The members of the expeditions have already completed the planned set of research activities in the Arkhangelsk region. Now they have to work in the Komi Republic.
