Since the beginning of this year, 432 landfills with a volume of more than 105 thousand cubic meters of waste have been liquidated in the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug. This was reported on the regional government portal.

“The Yamal residents themselves provide a lot of help in this through various events and cleanup days,” the message says.

In particular, in the capital of the district, Salekhard, the cleanup of the largest city landfill in the Polyarny microdistrict was completed. The volume of garbage removed exceeded 12 thousand cubic meters. In most municipalities, cleanup work continues.

“To combat citizens who throw out garbage in the wrong places, camera traps have been installed in places where unauthorized dumps are likely to appear,” the district government said.

Thus, in the city of Muravlenko, thanks to camera traps, illegal logging was stopped and the persons transporting garbage into the forests were identified.
“A lot of work has been done to clean up the coastal areas. As part of the All-Russian campaign “Water of Russia”, reservoirs were cleaned in 39 settlements. To date, more than 7.5 thousand people throughout the district have already participated in the action.

By the end of the year, Yamal plans to liquidate another 151 landfills throughout the entire district. In just five years, more than two thousand landfills with a volume of over 650 thousand cubic meters have been destroyed in the district.

“The elimination of landfills contributes to achieving the goals of the Ecology national project,” noted the government of the Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug.
