More than 23 kilometers of the shores of lakes and rivers in the Murmansk region were cleared by volunteers in 2023 as part of the project "Preservation of unique water bodies", the State Commission for the Development of the Arctic reported.
35 subbotniks have already been held, in which more than 1.3 thousand people participated. In total, since the beginning of the regional project in 2019, about 6.1 thousand people have cleared the coastline with a total length of over 168 km.
"This project improves the condition of water bodies in the region and supports their ecological well-being. In addition, it contributes to the development of environmental volunteering in the region, since the number of residents involved in the events increases every year, which has a positive effect on the environmental literacy of the population," said Zinaida Sereda, Minister of Natural Resources, Ecology and Fisheries of the Murmansk region.
