Experts also told about another feature of 2022 - the preservation of residual ice in larger volumes, 20-25% higher than last year.
The total area of ice cover in the Arctic Ocean as of the end of June (the period of the greatest ice cover) it amounted to 10,504 million sq km. This is 4.6% less than the average annual values over the past 40 years and close in magnitude to the average value for a decade, experts said.
