The French company Solar has announced the construction of the Arctic sailing cruise ship Captain Arctic, which will be launched in 2026.
The environmentally friendly vessel is being built at a shipyard in Mauritius, and it will use solar and wind energy to navigate in Arctic waters.
The length of Captain Arctic will be 70 meters. The liner will be able to take on board up to 36 passengers, who will be offered unique cruises to Norway, Greenland and Svalbard.
The vessel will be equipped with an autonomous freshwater production system and heated by using a boiler on recycled wood waste.
According to the forecasts of the customer, the Selar company, the liner will be able to run on 90% solar and wind energy. Another 10% will be provided by two backup engines running on purified vegetable oil.
