Domestic tourism should double the share in the gross national product of the northern regions of the Russian Federation, whose tourist infrastructure does not keep up with the increase in tourist flow to the Russian Arctic, said Russian Minister for the Development of the Far East and the Arctic Alexei Chekunkov.
"The program initiated by President Vladimir Putin on the development of support cities in the Arctic zone will be aimed at solving this problem. National domestic tourism, the task set by the president, should double its role in the gross national product of the respective regions," Chekunkov told reporters during a working trip to the Murmansk region.
According to the minister, thanks to the development of tourism infrastructure, the Arctic regions of the Russian Federation will be able to meet the demand not only for domestic but also for international tourism.
The tourist flow to the Murmansk region in 2023 increased by 10% and reached 600,000 travelers.
