The Samoilovsky Island scientific station, located in the Lena River Delta, 650 km north of the Arctic Circle, will host the Center for Integrated Arctic Research, the press service of the Government of Yakutia reports.

The station was established in order to develop international scientific research in the Arctic. Scientists from Russian research organizations and from more than 10 countries of the world took part in interdisciplinary research.

The work of the station will be changed taking into account the priorities of the development of the Arctic zone of the Russian Federation to carry out large-scale complex interdisciplinary Arctic fundamental and applied research, as well as training highly qualified scientific personnel in Russia.

Yakutia is one of the key regions in the field of studying the state of the cryolithozone in Russia. About 30% of Russia’s background permafrost monitoring facilities will be located in the region, portnews.ru reports.
