The large artistic and educational project “Explorer and Artist: Art on an Expedition” dedicated to the exploration of the Russian Arctic, starts on January 26 in Zaryadye Park in Moscow with the support of Norilsk Nickel.

The exhibition project is an initiative of Zaryadye Park, the State Darwin Museum, and the Russian State Stroganov University of Industry and Applied Arts, and it is carried out with the support of Norilsk Nickel.

It focuses on expeditions to the Russian Arctic over the past 400 years. The project is interdisciplinary, cross-cultural, includes several exhibitions as well as an educational program and presents the phenomenon of artist-researcher and scientist-researcher who use visual tools as a method of scientific analysis.

The project is timed to coincide with the end of the second year of the Great Scientific Expedition - a joint work of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences and Norilsk Nickel. The study of fragile ecosystems was carried out in the Krasnoyarsk Territory, on the Kola Peninsula and in the Trans-Baikal region, as well as on a section of the Northern Sea Route and port areas on the Yenisei River.

“The project is interesting for its complexity; it unites three different institutions with one theme, which is interdisciplinary and cross-cultural in nature. It makes it possible to take a broad look at the centuries-old history of the region, understand the significance of climate change in the Arctic and see in a new way the problem of the coexistence of nature, man and technology,” said Kirill Gavrilin, project curator, professor at the Russian State Stroganov University of Industry and Applied Arts.
