In December Admiralty shipyards will begin to build a vessel to work in the Arctic, the press service of the shipyard reports.

In 2029, the research vessel Ivan Frolov will replace the Academician Fedorov built in 1987.

"In December we will start cutting metal for a new unique scientific expedition vessel "Ivan Frolov", the contract for its construction was signed in May of this year," said Andrey Veselov, General Director of the shipyard.

The expedition vessel will carry the cargo necessary for polar explorers and deliver groups of researchers totaling up to 170 people to the Earth's poles, radiosputnik.ria.ru reports.
