“On August 21, 2023, the main stage of the multi-format competition “Ticket to the Arctic” ended. The jury selected 30 best projects, the authors of which will present their ideas at a public defense,” the statement says.

The goal of the competition is to popularize knowledge about Russian scientific achievements in the field of development and conservation of the Arctic among young audiences.

As reported on the website of the administration of St. Petersburg (among the finalists are students from the Northern capital), the final of the competition will be held in Moscow at the end of September.

“The main prize will be a trip to a scientific expedition to the Arctic. Ten winners will have the opportunity to visit nature reserves, existing production sites, key research centers and scientific and technological facilities,” the message says.

In total, more than 300 thousand people from all over the country took part in the “Ticket to the Arctic” competition. Among the projects proposed by the finalists are the creation of a mobile platform for permafrost monitoring, an interactive situational map of scientific cooperation in the Arctic, the compilation of hydrographic maps of the “white spots” of the North Seas, the development of dual-use water drones, and the development of hydrometeorological monitoring of the river network of the Kola Peninsula.

The competition was open to Russian citizens aged 18 to 35 - college students, university students and graduate students, employees of scientific institutes and organizations.

“The contestants virtually explored an interactive map of the Arctic in a specially developed VKontakte mini-application “Ticket to the Arctic”, and also took an online test for knowledge of the Arctic region. Participants who successfully completed the testing were able to send their project applications in priority areas of study and development of the Arctic,” as per the St. Petersburg administration.
