The banks of the picturesque northern river were turned into a spontaneous garbage heap back in the days of the USSR. Entire mountains of all kinds of household and industrial waste have accumulated here.
"In the current field season, activists of the movement freed a huge space from human waste. This caused a warm emotional response from local residents," the Clean Arctic project's press service said.
At the same time, only ten volunteers took part in the cleaning. Andrey Nagibin, the leader of the All-Russian environmental movement, noted that they had successfully coped with their task.
"In the most difficult weather and living conditions, they brilliantly cope with the task, and even now, when it is already cold here, they continue their labor volunteer feat. These guys are real heroes!", Nagibin is quoted as saying by the press service.
Volunteers will continue to work at this site in the next field season. They plan to completely clear the banks and channels of the Shchuchya River from debris.
