Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said in his blog that the comprehensive landscaping of Sokolniki Park will begin this year. This place is a favorite vacation spot for Muscovites. Last year, more than 27 million people visited the park.
Landscaping works in Sokolniki have been taking place periodically for more than ten years. In recent years, the territory has been freed from emergency attractions and illegally erected buildings, leisure infrastructure facilities and an entrance group have been renovated, and an artificial ice rink has been opened. Walking routes with lanterns and benches appeared in the park, the "Garden of Astronomers" was restored, and an updated 35-meter Ferris wheel appeared. In addition, the rehabilitation of the Lilac Garden took place.
The complex improvement of the park will take place in three stages. In the near future, a larger site will be transferred to the only bird rehabilitation center in Russia, which operates in Sokolniki. An aviary for birds will be built on it. A pavilion with administrative and technical premises will be adjacent to it. The outdoor areas of the ornitharium will feature perches for falcons, individual and group aviaries, a dovecote and a crow house. Wounded and sick birds are being cared for in the center. There are also guided tours and performances for visitors.
After landscaping, decking and places for a summer solarium will be equipped on the shores of the Golden Pond. A universal all-season event venue and a cafe are organized nearby. Local work will be carried out at the Sokolniki Cynological Center, the largest training school in Russia. Track and playground coverings, as well as fences, will be replaced here.
In addition, the covering of the health trail, which is popular with all visitors to the park, will be replaced. Children's and sports grounds, which are located next to the House of Children's Creativity, will be put in order.
