The press service of the Ministry of Ecology and Nature Management of the Moscow Region has announced that the first May beetles have begun to wake up in the region. Now these insects are preparing for a massive flight.

Entomologists ask residents of the region not to catch insects, which are a valuable food source for birds that feed their chicks. Despite the fact that the May beetle is not listed in the Red Book, its extermination can seriously harm the ecosystem.

May beetles are found in the Moscow Region from late April to mid-May. Before these beetles start flying, they spend several years in the larval stage underground. Adult individuals live for only a few weeks. They make a massive flight only to procreate.
