The Russian Traveler Awards in the nomination "Natural Object" this year was awarded to the Ushkany Islands (Zabaikalsky National Park). This was reported by the Federal State Budgetary Institution "Reserved Podlemorye", under the protection of which the national park is located.
"Interest in the archipelago is ensured thanks to the ecological trail "To the Baikal Seal rookery" on the island of Tonky. Here, in the summer, you can watch seals in their natural habitat. 5.6 thousand people visited the trail this year! According to our experts, this figure will only grow," the message says.
The "Reserved Podlemore" did not rule out that in the future visits to the archipelago will have to be limited, since there should be no recreational overload in specially protected natural areas, that is, exceeding the permissible number of visitors.
The Baikal seal is an endemic inhabiting the entire lake. The largest summer rookery is located on the Ushkany Islands. Seals come here to bask in the sun, especially in May and June.
