The opening ceremony of the winter season of the ski resort "Bolshoy Woodyavr" took place on the main square of the Northern slope in Kirovsk (Murmansk region).
"The pupils of the Olympic Reserve school for winter sports of the city of Kirovsk were the first to drive down the slope after the official opening," the message on the website of the Murmansk Region Tourism Committee says.
The governor of the region, Andrey Chibis, also tested the fresh tracks of the Northern slope, having descended from the mountain on skis.
As noted in the message, the ski resort "Bolshoy Vudyavr" is one of the most popular in Russia. Over 335 thousand guests visited it last season, which is 25% more than in the previous one. At the same time, the average attendance of the slopes of the resort is more than 1.5 thousand guests per day, the peak reaches 5.5 thousand people per day.
"Today, the "Big Woodyavr" is 30 kilometers of trails of different levels of complexity, the height difference at which reaches 600 meters. There are also rental of equipment and equipment, experienced instructors are at guests' disposal, ideal preparation of trails thanks to the artificial snowmaking system and comfortable lighting on a polar night," the committee said.
The novelty of the 2023-2024 season for the guests of the "Big Woodyavr" will be two cable cars, the construction of which is currently underway.
"In particular, a gondola-type suspended passenger cable car with a capacity from 1200 to 2250 people per hour is being built on the Southern slope of the Aikuaivenchorr Mountain. Its length will be about 2000 meters, and the rolling stock is formed of comfortable panoramic cabins. Boarding on the cable car will be carried out directly from the parking lot, which will facilitate and simplify logistics for resort guests," the message says.
A towpath with double towing devices is also being built on the Northern slope of the Aikuaivenchorr Mountain with a length of 300 meters. Its capacity will be 1200 people per hour. In addition, additional lighting masts with high intensity floodlights will be installed on the Northern Slope for the comfort and convenience of guests.
