The Western Balkans are among the top 10 destinations recommended to visit next year. This is the conclusion reached by the analysts of the Lonely Planet travel portal. Tourism experts recommend the program "Bicycle Route of the Western Balkans".
The path linking several Balkan countries is now in the final stage of development. Next summer it will take place in Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Albania, Northern Macedonia and Serbia.
The length of the route will be about 2000 km. Bike trails are laid so that tourists can drive through the most beautiful places along mountain rivers and lakes, visit national parks and nature conservation areas, admire unique cultural heritage sites from the UNESCO list. The route maps that are being compiled indicate the places of overnight stays and halts, contacts of local guides, attractions of each region.
The signs on the ground will be installed at the beginning of the 2024 summer season. The developers of the Western Balkans Cycle Route program hope that the new eco-tourist route will revitalize local communities and lead to the development of sustainable tourism in mountainous regions.
