The press service of the Ministry of Ecology and Nature Management of the Moscow region announced the reorganization of the nature reserve "Verevkin Bugor tract", located in the urban districts of Lukhovitsy and Kolomna. The reason for it was an inaccurate description of the boundaries of a specially protected area and the absence in the documents of data on many valuable natural objects located on the territory of the reserve.
Thanks to the reorganization, the area of the reserve has increased more than three and a half times: from 1923 hectares to 7083.60 hectares.
Experts conducted a survey of the territory and came to the conclusion that the reserve does not fully include a valuable forest and meadow complex, confined to the left-bank valley of the Oka River. Rare and protected species of flora and fauna have also been recorded on the territory of the protected areas.
Among them are ten species of animals listed in the Red Book of Russia and the Red Book of the Moscow region, nine species of plants, four species of lichens. In addition, 44 species of animals listed in the Red Book of the Moscow Region and 15 species of animals that are rare and vulnerable taxa in need of constant monitoring and supervision were observed. Scientists have managed to record one plant species, first discovered in the Moscow region.
