The area of reforestation in Russia this year to increase to almost 8 million hectares

The press service of the Ministry of Natural Resources reported that in 2024, reforestation and afforestation will be carried out on 1.4 million hectares. Thus, the total area in these areas, taking into account the previous five years of the forest conservation project, will amount to 7.7 million hectares.

Reforestation rates are constantly increasing. In 2023, the plan was even exceeded. In addition, the specialists managed to harvest 8.6 tons of seeds with improved characteristics. Seedlings grown from such seeds will significantly improve the quality of the restored forests. In just five years of the implementation of the federal project "Conservation of forests", the area of reforestation and afforestation in Russia amounted to 6.3 million hectares.

The project will be extended until 2030. Now the Federal Forestry Agency, together with the Ministry of Natural Resources of Russia, is working to include measures to create new and develop existing forest seed production facilities.

"At the same time, starting in 2025, within the framework of the federal project "Forest Conservation", it is planned to take into account both quantitative and qualitative characteristics of forest restoration, namely the care of forest crops, the creation of favorable conditions for the growth and development of forest plantations," the message says.
