In December, 120 athletes from 15 regions of the country will gather in Yamal Labytnangi to participate in All-Russian snowboarding competitions. This was reported by the portal of the government of the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug (YANAO).
"The I and II stages of the Russian Cup in the snowboard cross discipline will be held on the slope of the Oktyabrsky complex from December 1 to 7. Snowboarders aged 15 and over will compete for the title of the best," the message says.
Regional snowboard cross competitions, one of the most technically challenging and spectacular disciplines of this sport, have already been held twice on this slope. Now there will be competitions at the federal level.
The Oktyabrsky ski Complex is also planned to be used as a platform for a number of other federal sports events.
"Taking into account the unique northern weather conditions, it was decided to organize training camps for the Russian national snowboard team from December 7 to 17. A long winter will also allow Yamal to host participants of the Russian Cup final in April 2024," the portal notes.
Winter sports are traditionally popular in the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous District. In Nadym, on behalf of the governor, construction of a mini-sports complex for snowboarders began in October. A network of ski resorts is also developing, including in remote settlements.
