The official Wildlife of Russia portal reported that in 2023, specialists of the Voronezh Nature Reserve registered ten new species of birds. Information about meetings with them was included in the report of the Doctor of biological Sciences Peter Vengerov. The scientist also noted that for several years now there has been a tendency to shift the timing of the spring arrival of birds to earlier dates.

Among the species listed in the Red Book of the Voronezh Region, last year the great white heron, red heron, white stork, sibilant swan, wasp and great spindle were recorded. Among the birds listed in the Red Book of Russia, ornithologists of the Voronezh Nature Reserve met a black stork, a large spotted eagle, and a white-tailed eagle during the year.

The scientist reported that a red-necked grebe was also recorded in the reserve. Previously, it was not noted in the Voronezh region. This bird in the Lipetsk region has the status of a very rare breeding and migratory species. The only case of its reproduction was recorded in 1997.
