After the terrorist attack at Crocus City Hall in the Moscow region the French authorities raised the terrorist threat level in the country to the highest a few months before the Olympics in Paris.
According to the Union of Professions and the Hospitality Industry of Paris, almost one and a half million foreign tourists are expected to arrive at the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Paris this summer.
Some of them have suspended booking tickets and accommodation, having concerns about the security situation in the French capital, said Laurent Demer, president of the Coldwell Banker luxury real estate agency. According to him, the demand for rental housing has also slowed down during the Olympics.
After the terrorist attacks on November 13, 2015 in Paris, the number of bookings in the capital's hotels and restaurants fell by 30-40%. A drop in demand also took place in 2018 during the protest actions of the "yellow vests".
"This applies to the most cautious customers – Japanese and people from Asian countries in general, as well as Americans. There's really nothing to worry about. There will be cause for concern if terrorist attacks occur in France and other European countries by the Olympics," says Jean-Francois Rial, member of the Board of directors of the Paris Bureau of Tourism and CEO of Voyageurs du Monde.
