The press service of the Ministry of Natural Resources of the Russian Federation has announced the start of work in the Far East on the lifting and disposal of sunken property under the federal project "General Cleaning". This year, it is planned to remove 82 vessels from sea bays.
By the end of the year, sea waters in six Far Eastern regions will be cleared: 29 objects will be removed in the Kamchatka Territory, four in the Magadan Region, 11 in the Primorsky Territory, 18 in the Sakhalin Region, 17 in the Khabarovsk Territory, and three in the Chukotka Autonomous Okrug. To date, it has already been possible to raise one vessel each in the Kamchatka Territory and the Magadan Region.
The General Cleaning project is eliminating waste that has accumulated over decades. This includes landfills, abandoned industrial facilities, and hazardous wells. Ships are raised from the seabed that interfere with navigation and pollute marine ecosystems.
The report notes that the project for lifting and disposing of sunken ships is planned to be expanded to the Arctic. The regions have already been instructed to conduct an inventory of sunken property in the waters of sea bays and prepare lists of vessels for lifting.
