The State Secretary of the Ministry of Tourism and Youth of Serbia, Uroš Kandić, has stated that the country has great potential for developing cruise tourism. According to Kandić, the goal for the coming years is to turn Belgrade into one of the largest destinations for cruise ships. In connection with this, the Ministry announced the launch of the "Sail Serbia" project, which includes the comprehensive development of water infrastructure, primarily on the Danube.
"Work on the largest port in the country, in Veliki Gradište, began a few days ago. We will build a large international pier in Banostor, and work is also underway to double the capacity of the international passenger pier in Donji Milanovac," Kandić said.
Serbia has great potential for developing water tourism. One of the largest rivers in Europe flows through the country. The Danube has its maximum depths on the territory of Serbia. It is also here that both the narrowest and widest sections of the waterway of this majestic and beautiful river are located. In addition, numerous navigable tributaries of the Danube also have exceptional potential.
Entrepreneurs in the country are hoping for an influx of tourists, especially since the number of people wanting to take cruises on the Danube increased by 35% last year. According to the Secretary of the Ministry of Tourism and Youth, Uroš Kandić, last year Serbia reached the pre-pandemic level in terms of the number of moorings of cruise ships.
