This year, 40 benches and 33 urns made of recycled plastic collected in coastal zones were installed near reservoirs in 13 regions of Russia. The results of this joint work aimed at protecting water bodies and their ecosystems were summed up by the Rosselkhoznadzor (RSHB) and Rosprirodnadzor.
"The benches are made of environmentally friendly materials, they look no different from ordinary ones, but thanks to their design they can last more than 50 years. For the production of one such bench, 80 to 90 kilograms of plastic are needed," Rosprirodnadzor said on its website.
The project operator is the Fund "Ecology" of the Rosselkhoznadzor.
Measures to clean coastal zones from household garbage, waste and plastic were carried out from April to October 2023 as part of the Plan of Joint Environmental Initiatives of the bank and Rosprirodnadzor.
They included not only waste collection, the installation of benches and trash bins, but also sampling of water and sediments, as well as the placement of posters motivating to take care of the environment, the department noted.
"In total, 13 measures were carried out to clean up the coastal territory of such reservoirs as the Black Sea, the Gulf of Finland, the Don, Volga, Irtysh, Tobol, Kama, Miass, Voronezh, Usmanka, Seim, Rybinsk and Novosibirsk reservoirs, the Upper Iset Pond. Cleaning was carried out in 13 regions of Russia from the Krasnodar Territory to the Novosibirsk region," the report says.
520 volunteers took part in the action, who collected and sent for recycling more than 17 tons of waste.
The list of activities of the RSHB and Rosprirodnadzor for the next year will be approved at the next meeting of the Board of Trustees of the Ecology Foundation, which is scheduled for the end of November.
Participants discussed the boundary between nature and ecotourism, whether mass visits to unique areas can remain safe, the responsibilities of investors, and how to prepare tourists for visiting specially protected natural areas.
The head of state expressed confidence that the Forum will be held at a high level, and that its results will contribute to the development of tourism in Russia and the expansion of humanitarian and business ties.
