The press service of the "Land of the Leopard" national park reported that about three thousand seedlings of whole-leaved fir were planted on its territory. The average age of young trees is five years. Each of them was grown from a small seed by the directorate's employees and now reaches about 15 cm in height.
Before transplantation, the firs grew in the "Land of the Leopard" forest nursery under the supervision of specialists. The work is aimed at reviving black fir forests in the south of the Far East. In the past, the forests of southwestern Primorye were severely affected by fire and ax: whole-leaved fir was subjected to intensive felling.
This tree grows only in the south of Primorye and plays a significant role in the local ecosystem. In their new home, young firs are not in danger. This area is protected from natural fires and poaching, as it is under the protection of the "Land of the Leopard".
Now the saplings have to gain strength and grow. Adult trees can reach about 35 meters in height, and the trunk diameter can reach two meters. This is the tallest tree in the Far East.
